Andrew Agnew (actor)

Andrew Agnew (b. Andrew William Agnew on 28 September 1976) is a British actor. He is best known for playing the role of PC Plum in the Bafta award-winning BBC children's programme Balamory.[1]

Agnew was brought up in Elderslie and now is based in Glasgow.

His television career began in a BBC2 show called Fran's People where he was the character of the Muted Chef.[2] He then got his big break, cast as the police officer, PC Plum in CBeebies' Balamory. With a cast including Julie Wilson Nimmo, Miles Jupp, Juliet Cadzow and Kim Tserkezie, as well as many other now familiar faces, the series developed a devoted audience of pre-school children as well as some older viewers.[2]

Following the decision to stop filming Balamory, Agnew moved into directing for the first time, in a new children's television programme called Me Too.[3]

He returned to the role of PC Plum in special CBeebies versions of the seasonal nature programmes Springwatch and Autumnwatch. The character also appeared in continuity announcements during the series' run.

Returning to the stage at Christmas in Tunbridge Wells playing Smee in Peter Pan opposite James Gaddas as Captain Hook.[4]

He has appeared in 2 Balamory Live shows - Strike up the Band and What's the story? - and has also completed another arena tour in Cbeebies Live - Fantasy Circus.

He appeared alongside Su Pollard in Snow White at the Malvern Theatre over 2007 Christmas panto season.[5]

Andrew went on to tour the UK in Cbeebies at the Theatre - Let's Play before donning a dress as Mother Goose Christmas 2008 at the Kilmarnock Palace Theatre.

He is also one of the writers of "Child Made of Love" a play he starred in at the Tron Theatre Glasgow in October 2009.

Andrew appeared in the Christmas Pantomime Sleeping Beauty at Swansea's Grand Theatre between December 2009 and January 2010 starring alongside Malandra Burrows and Helen Fraser.[6]
